These are of primary importance for an adequate and balanced human diet and contribute significantly to regional and national economy. However, the cultivation of these crops is often affected by the ravagtes of pests and disease, thereby, lowering their yield potential. Diseases also cause subsequent post-harvest transit and storage losses. In the past few decades, dramatic advancements have been made in interactions, development of molecular diagnostic tools and integration of new concepts, principals and approaches for their effective management. About Author : Dr. S.K. Gupta is Scientists, Department of Mycology and Plant Pathology, Dr. Y.S. Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Solan (H.P.). He did his M.Sc. and Ph.D. from HP Krishi Vishvavidyalaya, Palampur and obtained advanced training on apple scab monitoring and warning from Sudtiroler Beratungsring Fur Obst- Und Weinbau, Lana, Italy in 1990. Dr. T.S. Thind is Senior Plant Pathologist in Punjab in Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana. He has executed several research projects on epidemiology and management of fungal diseases in vegetables and fruit crops through rational use of fungicides during the past 28 years. Dr. Thind has worked at INRA, Bordeaus, France for three years as post-doctoral fellow and as visiting scientist and has served as FAO consultant in Cape Verde.
